Former CSK and KKR players enter Bangladesh Premier League’s player draft

Bangladesh Premier League’s player draft: Names of three Indian players are present in the player draft for BPL 2019-20.

Despite BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) restriction on Indian players participating in overseas leagues, three Indian players have registered themselves in the players draft for the next season of the Bangladesh Premier League.

The player draft comprises names of 439 overseas and 181 local cricketers inclusive of tried and tested names such as former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera, Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik, Universe Boss Chris Gayle, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and many others.

It is worth mentioning that tournament has gone through numerous changes with respect to the ownership of franchises. All the teams are now fully owned by the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board).

The three Indian players who have entered the player draft are fast bowler Manpreet Gony, wicket-keeper batsman Manvinder Bisla and all-rounder Kumar Boresa.

Gony, who played for India in 2008, has represented Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League. The 35-year old fast bowler from Punjab had retired earlier this year to participate in the Global T20 in Canada.

Bisla, who allured limelight after scoring a match-winning 48-ball 89 against Super Kings in IPL 2012 final while chasing a 191-run target, has also expressed interest in BPL 2019-20. Bisla, 34, has represented Brothers Union in the Dhaka Premier Division League in the past.

Boresa, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2013 as a 17-year old all-rounder, didn’t eventually get to play a match. Boresa has since then not made either of his First-class, List A or T20 debut.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was the first Indian cricketer this year to retire from international cricket and play an overseas league. While he captain Toronto Nationals in the Global T20, he is currently playing for Maratha Arabians in the ongoing T10 League in Abu Dhabi.
