A BODY has been found this afternoon, believed to be that of a missing Launceston teenager.
Billy Ray Waters, 19, was reported missing on Sunday and had last been seen walking near the Holbrook St area in Invermay on August 4.
In a statement released this evening, Tasmania Police said a body has been found in bushland near Mayfield as part of the missing person investigation.
Two youths were taken into custody about 3.30pm and are assisting police with their inquiries, the statement said.
“A body of a man was located around 2.30pm this afternoon and has not yet been
formally identified, but it is believed to be Billy,” Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox said.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Billy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Police said investigations were continuing.
