21st Vasant Valley School English Debate for the India Today Cup

The grand finale of the 21st Vasant Valley School English Debate for the India Today Cup was held on October 26 at Vasant Valley School, Vasant Kunj in New Dehi.

The grand finale was held between Moulsari’s Shri Ram School in Gurugram, Haryana and Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore in Karnataka.

Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore emerged as winners and took home the India Today Cup.

The topic for the final round was: This House Believes That Political Differences Should Not Affect Interpersonal Relationships.


One of the most awaited events in the debating calendar of schools in India, this debate draws participants from schools all across the country besides several from the National Capital Region (NCR) where students engage in discussions on issues pertaining to socio-economic and political domains.


This year’s debate saw two days of competition between over 30 schools from across India.

Mother’s International School, Delhi
New Era Public School, Delhi
Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj in Delhi
Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan in Delhi
Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi
Modern School, Vasant Vihar and Barakhamba in Delhi
Ramjas School, Delhi
Vasant Valley School, Delhi

The debate also brought together participants from across the country including students from Sunbeam School, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai in Maharashtra, Vivek High School, Chandigarh, Sishya School, Chennai in Tamil Nadi, Mayo College for Boys, Ajmer in Rajastha, The Doon School, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, La Martiniere College Boys, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, Neerja Modi School, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Mallya Aditi International School, Bangalore in Karnataka, Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata in Bengal, Sherwood College, Nainital in Uttarakhand, The Scindia School, Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, The Shishukunj International School, Indore in Madhya Pradehs, GEMS Modern Academy, Dubai.


The debate follows the Parliamentary form of debating and is adjudicated by accomplished debaters of Delhi University (DU).

The unique feature of the debate is the exhibition debate by the adjudicators and the constructive feedback given at the end of each round to every participant.

Vasant Valley students performed well but were eliminated during semi finals.

The Vasant Valley debate brings together students from various backgrounds with a common passion for intellectual stimulation and provides them with a formal forum to argue for what they believe in.

Within two intellectually rigorous days of debating and a host of thought-provoking motions, the students emerge as better thinkers, leaders and debaters.
